Assessment Review Board Changes

There are many significant amendments planned for the Municipal Government Act (MGA) that will affect Assessment Review Boards.  The MGB has prepared an information sheet that outlines some of the amendments.

One of the amendments will limit the number of municipal councillors allowed to sit on an ARB panel.  To assist municipalities, the MGB is establishing a list of ARB Members who are willing to hear complaints for multiple ARBs.  This list will only be made available to certified ARB Clerks through our online e-learning system, CONTACT.

If you are a certified ARB Member and wish to be included in this list, please send the following to ma.arbadmin@gov.ab.ca :  first name, last name, phone number, email address, the municipality you reside in, and note if you are a municipal councillor.

If you are a certified ARB Clerk and wish to view the list, you must have access to CONTACT.  If you do not have access, please email ma.arbadmin@gov.ab.ca for assistance.

The MGB is here to support you through this transition and will email additional information about the changes to the MGA as it becomes available.  The legislature recently made several significant amendments to the MGA, all of which we anticipate will come into effect for the next assessment season.
