The AMCA Virtual Fall Workshop
will be held on December 4, 2025
Join us virtually for the Alberta Municipal Clerks Association’s Fall Workshop, a full-day professional development event designed to reflect on the recent municipal election and prepare for the challenges ahead. This year’s workshop will be held via Zoom from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
We’ll begin with greetings and introductions, followed by a session from Alberta Municipal Affairs (speaker TBD) focused on best practices and suggestions for working with newly elected councillors. This session will offer practical insights and guidance to help Clerks navigate the early stages of a new Council term. A mid-morning break will be followed by a Clerks-only debrief session, where members will share experiences, lessons learned, and suggestions for future elections.
After a lunch break, the afternoon session features Michael Solowan of Kingsgate LLP, presenting on “Handling Council without a Code of Conduct”—a timely and practical topic for many municipalities. A Q&A with Michael will lead into a roundtable discussion to wrap up the day.
Key Topics Include:
- Best practices for onboarding and supporting new councillors
- Peer-to-peer discussion on election successes and challenges
- Strategies for working with newly elected Councils
- Legal insights on governance without a formal Code of Conduct
- Open Q&A and roundtable collaboration
